Frequently Asked Questions about Billing and Insurance:
Q. How do I pay the anesthesiologist's bill?
A. As a member of Anesthesia Group of Onondaga, P.C., in private practice, your anesthesiologist will bill you separately from the surgeon's fees or hospital charges. Most health insurance policies will pay for all or part of the anesthesia fees. However, different policies vary greatly in the coverage provided.
Q. How do I file my claim?
A. As a courtesy, we will file the claim for you. In order to do this we must have your correct insurance information. If we have no insurance information for you, we will mail you a completed form for you to mail to your insurance company. If you have any questions, or require any assistance, please call our billing office at 1.888.854.3822. Our office may contact you to verify or correct our records.
Q. Will my insurance cover the entire fee?
A. Insurance companies, and their policies vary greatly in the amount of coverage provided. Although some insurance companies pay our fee in full, there may be a balance that your are responsible for.
Q. Will I be required to pay the balance?
A. Yes. If your insurance does not cover the entire fee, you will be billed for the balance.
Q. What insurance companies do you participate with?
A. We participate with:
* Medicare
* Medicaid
* POMCO
* CIGNA
* UNIVERA
* Upstate Administrative Services
* Statewide PPO
* Blue Cross Blue Shield of CNY
* Excellus
* Blue Point
* RMSCO
* HMO CNY
* United Health Care

Please note: For any further questions regarding insurance coverage please contact our billing office at 888.854.3822.
Q. Will Medicare cover the entire charge?
A. Medicare will pay 80% of all covered services. You will be charged the remaining 20%. If you have secondary coverage and we have your insurance information, you will be responsible for the 20% unpaid by Medicare and any charges for services Medicare does not cover.
Q. Do the charges represent only anesthesia fees?
A. Depending on the type of care your hospitalization requires, members of your staff may alos be involved in your post-operative care. These services have nothing to do with your anesthesia and will be specified on your bill.
Q. How is the anesthesia fee determined?
A. Anesthesia fees are established according to a standard procedure used across the country. The fee is based on both the complexity and length of your surgery.
Q. Will my insurance pay for my post-operative pain management?
A. Because post-operative pain management is a fairly new element of health care, it is not yet covered by all insurance companies. We do accept insurance in all cases if your policy covers this care. Therefore, cost should not influence your decision about post-operative pain management.
